PICTURES FROM MY TRIP AROUND THE WORLD: #37
Location: Ocean
Did you know that the ocean has a desert? There are vast areas that don’t have plankton, which is the critical component for life in the ocean. Since water covers about 70% of the earths surface and a lot of that is a biological desert, most of our planet is uninhabited. The scary thing is that the ocean deserts are growing at a much faster rate than scientists anticipated. What struck me the most was not any of that but just how still the water can be in the middle of the ocean, it looked like a sheet of glass. It felt like we were sailing through a lake rather than the middle of the sea. I never wanted to jump overboard so bad. The water was so pretty and warm, like a booby. This is a bad feeling to have especially when I have a few beers in me. I’ve learned that beer is my friend, but it’s the friend who who says to you, “Go ahead man, you can do it. You can swim to South Africa.”
