Why Living In Cities Sucks
“When you live in a city, it’s easy to forget that we are surrounded by the greatest show in the Universe: The Universe itself. This sky comparison chart is the sad proof of that”

When I was sailing around the world on that cruise ship for college students, we convinced the captain to turn off all the ship lights for one night so we could look at the stars. It was astounding. We were in the middle of the ocean and there was no light pollution from anywhere. Some friends and I snuck up to the front of the boat right underneath the bridge to enjoy the stars and silence. That area was off-limits to anyone but crew, but it was so dark no one could see us lying down on the deck. Of course at one point a crew member almost walked on us. He was strolling around smoking. Just as we were about to yell out, he stopped, paused, turned around and then walked the other way. Next we had one of those no-one-laugh-even-though-everyone-wants-to-laugh-moments. One of my favorite nights from the whole trip.
