Where’s the pastrami?

The NY Times just published a piece about the popularity of pastrami burgers (that’s a hamburger topped with pastrami) in Salt Lake City. I read it, as I am a now a student of Utah society.

But it had a throwaway line about LA that threw me: “In more recent years, pastrami-gorged burritos have emerged as Los Angeles staples.”

What? Really? Is this just a non-fact about LA that an out-of-town writer made up, or is this actually a food trend I’ve somehow missed?

Yeah, it’s fucking intense. I had one awhile back at Oki Dog on Fairfax just south of Melrose. I wrote a post about it here. I’m still digesting it.
