I’ve been listening to Robert Evan’s “The Kid Stays in the Picture.” He’s used to be the head of Paramount studios in the late 60’s, so the book is full of bat shit stories. As a result I’m on a big classic movies kick. I watched The Heartbreak Kid last night. It’s about a guy who gets married and falls in love with another woman on his honeymoon. It stars Charles Grodin and a 22-year-old Cybill Shephard. The film is incredible. It’s funny, but also startling, especially the end. It’s amazing how measured the pace was, how they really took the time to develop the characters. Cybill Shephard is a timeless beauty in it, definitely the look of a Hollywood starlet. The only thing that didn’t click for me was some of the costuming. I know it was the 70’s, but c’mon, what the hell is that thing she is wearing? How can one decade have gotten it so wrong?
